Full Bellies and Warm Hearts

January 27, 2020

On December 18, we had the absolute privilege of serving the kids at Joe Howe Elementary once again! This was our third year providing the students at the school with pancakes, sausage, juice and all the fixin’s, but this time around we changed things up a bit and opened our doors wide to invite them into our North Street location. It was a snowy day and the kids were all decked out in the winter attire (extra credit to the teachers and administrators here!), stomping off their snowy boots and trudging in from the cold by the dozens. Inside they found loads of food, including Halal sausages for those that needed them, and an army of volunteers ready to love on them.

Joe Howe school is a literal stone’s throw from our church building, but many of the kids who go there face some significant challenges in their home lives. Many come from refugee families. Many may not have even had breakfast that morning. And many have never even heard of Jesus. But they felt His love that day.

A huge thanks to all the volunteers who came to set up, cook, serve, clean, and tear down from this event. The smiles on all the syrupy faces and the in-unison “THANK YOU”s heard on repeat from each sticky group warmed the hearts of every adult in the room!
