Guiding Fire: Read Exodus 13

In our reading today, God guides the children of Israel through the wilderness with a pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. Sometimes, I wish God still guided his people with a massive visible tower of flame, but make no mistake- He does still lead and guide his people.

As believers, rather than having a giant pillar in front of us, we have the Spirit of God living within us- and He can speak directly to our hearts. For some people, that feels like actual words. For other people, it’s just a deep sense of what they need to do in a given situation. Being guided by the Spirit is not just for mystics and spiritual giants- it’s for all God’s people, just like the pillar of fire in the wilderness could be seen by all God’s people.

This week, we are going to be inviting God to speak to us as individuals and to shape us more deeply into a Spirit-led church. We are going to be listening to what He has to say to us, and we are going to respond in obedience.
